Research and Development Map
(R&D Map)
Address the unmet
needs in cancer survivorship.

Provide care that respects individual values to all who need it.
The Survivorship Care and Quality of Life Research Association (SaQRA) is developing treatments and care that focus on the central values of all individuals involved in cancer. Additionally, SaQRA is conducting research on implementing these treatments and care in social and clinical contexts and providing companion support. This R&D map provides an overview of major research conducted within Japan and serves as a basis for planning research that addresses unmet needs.
-
- How is the R&D map created?
-
We have collected information on research conducted by public research institutions and guidelines both in Japan and abroad regarding the 27 items*1 from the survey by Zenganren (Japan Federation of Cancer Patient Groups).
According to the results of this survey and collected information, Zen-Ganren PPI committee, J-SUPPORT R&D map committee, and SaQRA held discussions and created the R&D map, which was published in February 2024.
-
- What updates are coming?
- Items marked with "―" indicate those that had not been studied during the R&D map creation and require further research.
Definitions of the terms listed.
- ■Details of the intervention survey.
- Solutions for issues requiring consideration.
- ■Research by public research funds in Japan.
-
Clinical trials and clinical research listed in clinical trial registration databases or public research funding databases.
- MHLW = Health and Labour Sciences Research Grant by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare
- AMED = Research funding provided by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development
- KAKENHI = Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
- ■Guidelines in Japan
- Clinical guidelines based on outcomes from the SaQRA guideline CQ review.
- ■Guidelines abroad
-
The “Guidelines abroad” section was created based on the following three guidelines:
- NCCN Survivorship Guidelines 2022 TOC
- NCCN Clinical Oncology Guidelines (e.g., Survivorship and others)
- NCCN Clinical Oncology Guidelines for Patients

- *1A survey by the Survivorship Committee.
- Zenganren Survivorship Committee conducted a survivorship-related survey.
- The results are available on the J-SUPPORT website.
- (4th J-SUPPORT Research Findings Presentation Session② Report on Zenganren survivorship needs survey - Our View on "Cancer Survivorship" Presenter: Ichiro Kawai(NPO法人 がんと共に生きる会:Gan to tomoni ikiru-kai))
- We asked individuals in various roles, including patients with cancer, their families, and bereaved families, to select issues they found challenging from the 27 items created with reference to the "Survivorship Guidelines" by the American NCCN.
Important notes for viewing the R&D map
The R&D map is a conceptual diagram intended for efficiently planning clinical trials. Notably, it does not guarantee the comprehensiveness of important clinical issues, and the treatments and clinical trials shown should not be regarded as guidelines for individual patient treatment options. The study introduced on this page reflects the situation during map creation and may not be up to date.
- This information is not intended to recruit patients for clinical trials. In addition, we cannot accept inquiries regarding the details of clinical trials conducted by other organizations that are introduced in the R&D map. Thank you for your understanding.
